Tara McCarthy, Vice President, Director of Global Consulting
Tara is a senior production executive whose impressive credentials include a
mastery of international film and television production, and a comprehensive
knowledge of the commercial production industry.
Following graduation from George Washington University, where she was President
of Phi Beta Kappa, McCarthy joined FilmFair's New York operation as an assistant
to the executive producer. She then moved to Los Angeles where she worked as
a freelance crew member in various film departments. After two years, FilmFair
asked her to return to New York to reestablish and manage a new FilmFair office.
Once FilmFair New York was profitable, McCarthy set off on her own to found Opus,
a company that thrived on producing complicated commercials within tight budgets.
Working with some of the industry's highest profile directors and producers,
Opus focused on international corporate campaigns, special effects and fashion/beauty
advertising. Tara partnered Opus with London-based MGMM, then the world's largest
and most prestigious music video production company, to share directors and worldwide
production resources. This experience enhanced McCarthy's already strong proficiency
in contract negotiations and international advertising production.
These skills attracted the interest of Harmony Holdings, the only publicly traded
commercial production holding company in the US. McCarthy was hired as COO to
set up an international division and to staff and supervise the operations of
five wholly owned subsidiaries. While at Harmony, McCarthy designed and implemented
organizational and management systems to increase economies of scale, initiated
several overseas production relationships to promote revenue growth, and completed
negotiations to acquire a music video production company.
With BBS since 1995, Tara is a sought-after consultant and a special
resource for us all on international production. She's now branching out into
Web consulting and is honing her deal making skills for use in celebrity talent
negotiations.
Tara McCarthy lives in Larchmont, New York with her husband, Lee, and their two
dogs.
